There are numerous programs on the market which allow you to archive files using several formats. But the problem with these archiving tools is that they don't offer a very good protection when it comes to encrypting archives with a password. In some situations, for example, when sending files over email, security is very important and it's essential to protect your archive with an advanced algorithm.

In this situation, you could use BCArchive, a Windows program which allows you to create archives in a proprietary format and protect them using several encryption algorithms which are almost impossible to break by hackers. After the program has been installed and launched, you will just need to access the top menu and choose the "New" option in order to create a new protected archive.

First you will need to either select a password for the archive or choose the public key encryption, which is more safe than using just a simple password. What's more, you will need to select the encryption algorithm. The program includes a large number of encryption algorithms and it also allows you to choose the hash type for each of them.

After making all these settings, the archive will be created and you will then be able to add the desired files and folders to it. This can be done easily, by accessing the program's top menu. Optionally, you can create a self extracting archive, so that anyone can decode the archive without having to install and use BCArchive.

Pros

It allows you to create encrypted archives using a large number of algorithms and hash types. Besides that, you can easily add any file or folder to the archive. Furthermore, you can create self extracting archives which can be accessed without using the application.

Cons

There is no option for creating archives in another format than the proprietary one. Using BCArchive you can create strong-protected and encrypted archives in no time.
